DC United expands Audi Field capacity to 21,200 with new LED lights and seating ahead of critical 2026 playoff stretch in Eastern Conference race.

Work crews wrapped up installation of upgraded LED floodlights and 1,200 additional south-end seats at Audi Field on July 9, giving DC United a larger home footprint for the remaining 12 regular-season matches and any playoff dates that follow.
The changes arrive at a critical point because the club sits two points inside the Eastern Conference playoff line with 14 games left. A deeper run to the MLS Cup finals would require consistent home results in August and September, when opponents include New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United. The extra seating raises capacity from 20,000 to 21,200 on match nights, directly affecting gate revenue that the club has said it needs to meet payroll obligations.
DC United will open its new lower-level club seats on July 18 against Charlotte FC, with the first 500 buyers receiving a commemorative scarf made by a vendor on Half Street SE. The team’s front office also booked overflow watch parties at Capital One Arena in Chinatown for the two September home games that fall on national television windows, a move that frees up parking lots at Buzzard Point for tailgaters. Both sites sit within three miles of each other, allowing fans to walk or take the Green Line between venues on the same evening.
Local data from the District’s Department of Parks and Recreation shows average attendance at Audi Field rose to 17,400 per match last season, up 9 percent from 2024. Ticket prices for the new south-end sections start at $52 for adults and $28 for children under 12, with season-ticket holders in the 1,200-seat addition receiving a 15 percent discount on concessions at the new kiosks along the concourse.
Supporters who want to attend the final four home dates can purchase single-game tickets through the club’s website beginning July 15 at 10 a.m. The first-come, first-served sale covers seats in sections 101 through 105, with a limit of four tickets per account to prevent scalping. Fans who miss the window can still buy standing-room passes at the gate for $25 on non-televised nights.
