Georgetown added three new restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue in the past year, giving residents fresh options for dinner within walking distance of their homes.
Summer weekends draw more foot traffic to the area as temperatures hold in the low 80s and patios stay open past 9 p.m. Residents who already shop at the Tuesday farmers market on the waterfront now look for places to eat afterward instead of heading back across the river.
The Georgetown Business Improvement District tracks these shifts and lists Filomena Ristorante on Wisconsin Avenue and 1789 Restaurant on 36th Street as anchors that have kept steady hours through recent construction on M Street. Both sit within a short block of the C&O Canal towpath, where evening walkers often stop for a meal before heading home.
Start at the canal level and climb the steps to Wisconsin Avenue for Italian plates at Filomena, where pasta entrees begin at $24. Continue two blocks north to Prospect Street for the newer spot The Table at 3051, which opened in March 2025 and serves fixed-price menus at $68 per person on weeknights. These stops avoid the heavier traffic near Key Bridge and keep returns to residential streets on the east side of Wisconsin simple after dark.
City data released in May by the DC Office of Planning showed Georgetown foot traffic up 12 percent year over year, with the largest gains between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Average checks at sit-down spots in the 20007 zip code reached $58 per person last quarter, according to the same report.
Check OpenTable each Wednesday morning for same-week openings, since walk-ins fill quickly once the sun drops. Residents who live east of 31st Street can reach both Filomena and 1789 on foot in under 12 minutes via the canal path, skipping any need for rideshares during peak evening hours.
